If you are new to the car driver who is just starting to consider buying a car, it is highly recommended that you add the retroreflectometer to the purchase list. What is a retro reflector? Why is it important for road safety? How does the retroreflector work?

Retroreflecometer For Traffic Sign

What is a retroreflector?

A retroreflector (sometimes called retroflector or cataphote) is a device or surface that reflects radiation (usually light) back to it with minimal source of scattering. In the retroreflector, the wavefront of the radiation is reflected directly back to the source. Unlike a flat mirror, it can operate over a wide range of incident angles, while a planar mirror does this only when the mirror is completely perpendicular to the wavefront and the angle of incidence is zero. Being oriented, the reflection of the retroreflectometer is brighter than the reflection of the diffuse reflector. Corner reflectors and cat eye mirrors are the most commonly used.

What is the role of the retroreflector?

Driving on the road can be dangerous – accidents, even fatal. Losing life is a tragedy. Hospitalized people are a huge price to society and to individuals who care and lose their jobs. Do the authorities consider these costs when deciding on road maintenance and driving safety? The funds used to improve driving safety are less than the cost of a traffic accident.

Retroreflectors – use them to increase driving safety! If the road marking or road marking provides the minimum retroreflective level specified in the standard, the use of the retroreflectometer is the only way to objectively assess – thus providing the best guidance for safe driving in all situations.retroreflectors can measure retroreflection in seconds and provide undisputed results and demonstrate whether road markings or road markings meet or fail to meet standard guidelines.

Retroreflectors – help you spend your maintenance budget more efficiently! Financial resources are limited for most of us. There is a road maintenance budget that can be spent. How do you spend the most effectively? For road markings and road signs, first use available resources to avoid underperforming signs and road signs - and maintain a high level of road safety. DELTA's Retroreflector accurately measures the position of markers and markers during the show and allows you to invest resources here.

The standard is an instruction to the national road authority to improve driving safety, what measurements need to be enforced and which restrictions to comply with. Enforcement standards will improve road safety, especially during nighttime and driving in harsh conditions such as rain and fog. International studies have shown that accidents and deaths at night are relatively high compared to driving during the day. Since the advent of the first simple retroreflector in the 1980s, a new generation of instruments has taken over the development of the latest technology. One of the goals of retro reflectors is to lead the development of technologies for such instruments - in addition to making them user friendly and easy to operate. In this way, we can ensure that the process of checking the performance of road markings and traffic signs is smooth and fast.

What is the working principle of the retroreflector?

The retroreflective measurement of traffic signs and road markings – the amount of light reflected directly from their source from any angle – may become more important only for road authorities. There is an urgent need to maintain safety levels at night, especially when street lights are reduced to save energy. In addition, retroreflection can be critical to the guidance system of autonomous vehicles.

The supplier of retroreflectometers (complex instruments for measuring retroreflection) reported significant developments aimed at meeting the need for more data on traffic sign and line marking performance. According to the manufacturer (reflectometry system), it is now available. Technology to regularly monitor the retroreflectivity of road markings at a safe speed and at an economical rate.

Typical retroreflectors (such as cube corners or transparent microspheres) have structures that produce multiple reflections. Regardless of its mechanism, a perfect retroreflector will reflect all light directly back to its source. Fortunately, this efficiency is not only impossible for highway applications, but also impractical. In order for the retroreflection to be useful, the driver needs to see it - placing the ideal position of the headlight on the driver's forehead between the eyes is not only impractical, but may also encounter some market-accepted resistance. In fact, the headlights are limited to a non-optimal position for the driver to see the retroreflected light. Therefore, standard illumination and viewing geometries have been defined to objectively evaluate the performance of different materials and mounting methods. A key element of this assessment is the understanding of the concept of light source illumination intensity.

Retroreflector application area

1.For road authorities, road laboratories, expert witnesses and traffic signs, license plates, contour safety signs, safety clothing and their customers' manufacturers.

2. Determine the retroreflective coefficient R A of the traffic sign and the retroreflective coefficient R' of the safety suit; apply to retroreflective materials of all types and colors.

3. Used on site and in the laboratory.

4. By the manufacturer, the customer performs quality control (pass/fail) when receiving, maintaining and deciding the necessary replacement.

5. Used for inventory.

With the continuous development of retroreflector technology, retroreflectivity will only become more and more important to the highway management department. If you are looking for a good quality and reasonable price of retroreflectometer, NANJING T-BOTA SCIETECH INSTRUMENTS&EQUIPMENT CO.,LTD can provide you with the best products.
