Automatic binder extractors are used for the analysis of asphalt mixtures using perchloroethylene or tetrachloroethylene solvents. The following is an introduction to the common failures and solutions of automatic binder extractors.

Cleaning not achieved

Problems with parts

Excessive noise

Liquid overflow

Cleaning not achieved

The washed minerals have not been cleaned to their full extent. The cause may be a clogged nozzle on the screen cover or a clogged dirt collector behind the recovery unit. Or the temperature of the input mixture is too high. In the first case, the nozzles inside the screen cover of the automatic binder extractor can be removed and need to be cleaned by blowing with compressed air or cleaning the dirt collector. In the second case, the mixture should be cooled to below 80°C and then sent to the screen.

Problems with parts

The screen seal of the automatic binder extractor popped out. The solution is to clean the outer edge of the screen seal to keep it free of oil.

The centrifuge cylinder of the automatic binder extractor is difficult to push in. The cause may be a dirty, sticky, or dry rubber ring on the centrifugal shaft. The solution is to apply silicone oil to the rubber ring and oil the seal on the discharge slot uncover. It should be noted that do not use a dent in the centrifugal cylinder.

It is difficult to take out the centrifuge barrel of the automatic binder extractor. The reason may be the "0" ring and centrifugal cylinder with a tight fit. Two pliers can be clamped on the symmetrical ends of the centrifugal cylinder pulled upward (centrifugal cylinder edge with a soft towel pad) to solve the problem.

Excessive noise

The flat conveyor belt of the centrifugal shaft is running too loudly with friction. The reason may be that the conveyor belt is worn or damaged. If it is a friction sound, loosen the belt clamping of the automatic binder extractor. If the belt is damaged, it must be replaced.

The centrifugal shaft makes a noise or harsh running noise when it starts and stops running. The cause may be a damaged bearing of the centrifugal shaft of the automatic binder extractor. The solution is to replace the bearing (which should be done by a professional in the maintenance workshop).

The vibration sound is too loud. The reason may be that the screen is not clamped, or the screen cover and screen are not placed correctly, and the seal is displaced. The solution is to correct the screen and tighten the knurled nut.

When the centrifugal shaft is running, the running sound is very loud and the motor protection device is closed. The reason may be the asphalt, and the centrifugal shaft is bonded to the main flange. The solution is to dissolve the asphalt by spraying some solvent between the shaft and the main flange with a wash bottle.

Liquid overflow

During the extraction process, solvent flows out from the automatic binder extractor. The reason may be that the centrifuge cylinder of the automatic binder extractor was forgotten to put into the centrifuge shaft. The solution is to clean the inner chamber of the centrifuge and check the conveyor belt. Put in the centrifuge cartridge.

The solvent pump keeps working, causing the mixture level to overflow. The reason may be that the level switch is not on. The solution is to check the level switch, which can be mechanically adjusted when cleaning the automatic binder extractor. If there is a problem with the line contact, you can replace the level switch.
